Pennsylvania RNs Mobilize For Patients
Hundreds of healthcare workers rallied in Harrisburg, PA, in early 2008. Nurses and others are urging state legislators to protect patient care by passing a ban on mandatory overtime. Recently, Rhode Island RNs succeeded in winning a new law for patients that will prohibit hospitals from requiring RNs to work more than 12 consecutive hours.

In 2007, as part of SEIU's "Walk a Day in My Shoes" program, Sen. Hillary Clinton joined Las Vegas nurse Michelle Estrada on her nightly rounds at St. Rose Hospital.
Hundreds of Value Care nurses visited USA Today.com to post a comment on their coverage of the visit. They used the media's attention on Estrada to educate thepublic on the need for safe staffing standards as a key part ofhealthcare reform.
